Exchange of Water Vapor Between the Atmosphere and Surface of Mars

چکیده
A model for exchange of water from the atmosphere to condensing CO2 caps is developed. The rate of water condensation in the caps is assumed to be proportional to the meridional heat flux. It follows that the amount of water condensed in the caps varies inversely with the amount of CO2 condensed. The seasonal phase of the release of water from the caps is not consistent with observed variations in the abundance of atmospheric water. Seasonal variations of atmospheric water abundance are most consistent with vapor exchange between the atmosphere and permafrost in the subtropics. Although water condensation in semipermanent caps is normally very slow, it may take place at a much faster rate at unusually high atmospheric temperatures, such as those produced by absorption of solar radiation by airborne dust.

On the orbital forcing of Martian water and CO2 cycles: A general circulation model study with simplified volatile schemes
[1] Variations in the Martian water and CO2 cycles with changes in orbital and rotational parameters are examined using the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory Mars General Circulation Model. The model allows for arbitrary specification of obliquity, eccentricity, and argument of perihelion as well as the position and thickness of surface ice. Exchange of CO2 between the surface and atmospher...

Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) is one of the most important quantities in meteorology and climate studies. PWV in Earth's atmosphere can be measured by Sun-photometer, the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS), and radiosonde from surface, atmosphere and space-based systems, respectively. In this paper, we use PWV measured by Sun-photometer located in Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Scien...
متن کاملWater Sorption on Martian Regolith Analogs: Near-infrared Reflectance
Introduction: Due to large variations of both surface temperature and amount of water vapor in the atmosphere, relative humidity at the Martian surface is subject to variations of several orders of magnitude. As a result, minerals of the regolith that are in direct contact with the atmosphere are susceptible to adsorb and desorb water over diurnal and seasonal cycles [1,2,3]. Near-infrared refl...
متن کاملRelationship between Atmospheric Water Vapor Transfer and Daily Rainfall in Iran
Introduction Because the occurrence of precipitation is directly related to the humidity in the atmosphere or precipitation systems, the study of humidity in the form of precipitable water and the transfer of water vapor is considered in atmospheric studies. Convergence Moisture flux is effective on precipitation, so its effect is much greater in the warmer months, especially in the lower at...
